Kandy Royals pulled off a remarkable run chase to defeat Galle Gallants by six wickets in the 16th match of the Lanka Premier League 2026 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
Asked to bat first, Galle Gallants produced a superb batting display to post a formidable 208 for 3 from their 20 overs. Opener Sam Harper set the tone with a brilliant 72 off 38 deliveries, striking seven fours and three sixes, before Charith Asalanka carried the momentum with an unbeaten 70 from just 32 balls, smashing seven boundaries and four sixes at a strike rate of over 218.
Earlier, Nurul Hasan contributed a valuable 33, while captain Dasun Shanaka added 16 and Chamika Karunaratne remained unbeaten on 8 as the Gallants crossed the 200-run mark.
For Kandy Royals, Zahir Khan was the standout bowler with 2 for 25, while Nuwan Thushara claimed the other wicket.
Facing a daunting target of 209, Kandy Royals produced one of the finest chases of the tournament, inspired by a sensational unbeaten century from Lahiru Udara.
The opener dominated the Gallants’ bowling attack, blasting an extraordinary 132 not out from just 63 balls, an innings featuring 15 fours and seven sixes at a strike rate above 209. He was well supported by Pawan Sandesh, who made 23, while Wanindu Hasaranga added 16 before Vijay Shankar remained unbeaten on 7 to complete the chase.
The Royals reached 214 for 4 in just 18.5 overs, sealing victory with seven balls to spare in a breathtaking run chase.
Despite defending a total in excess of 200, Galle Gallants found it difficult to contain Udara’s relentless stroke play. Sachindu Colombage was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 18, but the rest of the attack struggled to halt the Royals’ momentum as Lahiru Udara took complete control of the contest.
A spectacular unbeaten century from Lahiru Udara overshadowed an excellent batting effort by Galle Gallants, guiding Kandy Royals to a memorable six-wicket victory at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
