Galle Gallants Storm into LPL 2026 Final with Convincing Win Over Colombo Kaps
Galle Gallants booked their place in the Lanka Premier League 2026 Final after defeating Colombo Kaps by six wickets in Qualifier 2 at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Asked to bat first, Colombo Kaps found themselves under pressure early as Galle’s disciplined bowling attack kept the scoring in check. Rubin Hermann top-scored with a fighting 45 off 33 balls, while Ravindu Fernando added a valuable 48 from 27 deliveries, striking five sixes to lift the innings after a middle-order collapse.
Useful cameos from Malsha Tharupathi (28) and Janith Liyanage (23) helped Colombo recover, but regular wickets prevented them from building lasting partnerships. The Kaps were eventually bowled out for 176 in 18.5 overs.
Galle Gallants produced a well-rounded bowling performance, with Charith Asalanka and Sachindu Colombage claiming two wickets each, while Mohammad Nawaz, Akif Javed, Tharindu Ratnayake, and Eshan Malinga chipped in with one wicket apiece to keep the pressure on throughout the innings.
In reply, Galle Gallants chased the target with confidence, reaching 177 for 4 in just 18.4 overs. Sam Harper led the charge with a superb 77 off 51 balls, anchoring the innings with four boundaries and four sixes. He shared an important partnership with Charith Asalanka, who continued his impressive form with a composed 59 from 42 deliveries.
After Harper and Asalanka departed, Dasun Shanaka remained unbeaten on 8, while Sahan Arachchige finished the chase in style with an unbeaten 5, ensuring the Gallants crossed the line with eight balls to spare.
For Colombo Kaps, Ravindu Fernando was the standout bowler with 2 for 44, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Malsha Tharupathi claimed one wicket each. However, they were unable to halt Galle’s steady progress towards the target.
With the victory, Galle Gallants advanced to the LPL 2026 Final, where they will face Jaffna Kings in the championship decider. Colombo Kaps’ campaign came to an end after a spirited run to Qualifier 2, while the Gallants moved one step closer to lifting the LPL 2026 title.
