Galle Gallants secured a comfortable six-wicket victory over Colombo Kaps in Qualifier 2 of the Lanka Premier League 2026 at the R Premadasa Stadium, booking their place in the final against Jaffna Kings.
Chasing 177, Galle remained in control through half-centuries from Sam Harper and Charith Asalanka. After Mujeeb Ur Rahman removed Thomas Rogers early, the pair steadied the innings and built a commanding second-wicket partnership.
Harper brought up his half-century off 31 balls, followed by Asalanka, who reached the milestone in 36 deliveries. The pair shared a 126-run partnership off 84 balls before Malsha Tharupathi dismissed Asalanka for 59 off 42, leaving Galle needing 30 runs from 21 deliveries.
Ravindu Fernando removed Harper for 77 and Chamika Karunaratne in the 18th over, but the breakthroughs came too late to change the course of the match. With 12 required from the final two overs, Dasun Shanaka and Sahan Arachchige completed the chase with eight balls remaining.
Earlier, Colombo Kaps won the toss and elected to bat but were immediately put under pressure by Galle’s spin duo of Charith Asalanka and Mohammad Nawaz. The latter dismissed Sadeera Samarawickrama in the second over, before Asalanka removed Thanuka Dabare and captain Kamindu Mendis to reduce Colombo to 20/3 after three overs.
Rubin Hermann and Janith Liyanage briefly steadied the innings, with Liyanage striking 23 off just nine balls. Akif Javed dismissed him with the score at 47/4, before Colombo closed the powerplay on 52/4.
Tharindu Ratnayake dismissed Jimmy Neesham with the first ball after the powerplay, but Ravindu Fernando responded with a counterattacking knock. Hermann and Fernando added 70 runs off 43 balls for the sixth wicket before Sachindu Colombage removed Fernando for 48 off 27 deliveries.
Hermann scored 45 off 33 balls, while Malsha Tharupathi contributed a brisk 28 off 17. Colombo were eventually bowled out for 176 in 18.5 overs, with Eshan Malinga taking the final wicket.
