Galle Gallants Crowned LPL 2026 Champions After Five-Wicket Victory Over Jaffna Kings
Galle Gallants were crowned Lanka Premier League 2026 champions after a composed five-wicket victory over Jaffna Kings in the Final at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Chasing 124 for the title, Galle Gallants reached 126 for 5 in just 15.5 overs, completing the chase with 25 balls to spare and securing a memorable championship triumph.
Jaffna Kings, sent in to bat first, struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Gallants bowling attack. Kamil Mishara once again led the way with the bat, scoring 41 from 32 balls, including five fours. Avishka Fernando contributed 20 from 16 balls, while Chamindu Wickramasinghe added a quick 24 from 16 deliveries.
However, Jaffna lost wickets regularly and were restricted to 123 all out in 19.3 overs. The Gallants’ bowling attack was led brilliantly by Charith Asalanka, who produced an outstanding spell of 3 for 20 from four overs. Eshan Malinga also claimed three wickets, while Tharindu Ratnayake took two.
With 124 required, Galle suffered an early setback when Sam Harper fell for 1, but Thomas Rogers settled the innings with a valuable 34 off 27 balls. Dinura Kalupahana then played an important attacking innings, smashing 31 from just 19 deliveries, including six fours.
After a few wickets briefly brought Jaffna back into the contest, Chamika Karunaratne added 16 before Sahan Arachchige and Dasun Shanaka calmly finished the job. Arachchige remained unbeaten on 14, while captain Shanaka provided the final push with an unbeaten 20 from only nine balls, including two fours and a six.
Jaffna’s bowlers Treveen Mathew and Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets each, but the target proved too small for the Kings to defend.
The victory completed a memorable campaign for Galle Gallants, who held their nerve on the biggest stage to lift the LPL 2026 trophy.
Charith Asalanka was named Player of the Match for his match-winning bowling figures of 3 for 20, while Kamil Mishara was named Player of the Series after an outstanding tournament in which he scored 411 runs.
In front of a packed Colombo crowd, Galle Gallants finished the season as LPL 2026 champions, defeating Jaffna Kings by five wickets and sealing the title in emphatic fashion.
