Colombo Kaps delivered a polished all-round performance to register a 21-run victory over Dambulla Sixers in the 12th match of the Lanka Premier League 2026 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
Batting first, Colombo Kaps posted an imposing 197 for 5 from their 20 overs, thanks to a magnificent unbeaten innings from captain Kamindu Mendis. The skipper dominated the innings with a sensational 88 off just 39 deliveries, smashing nine fours and four sixes at a strike rate of over 225 to power Colombo to a formidable total.
Earlier, Rubin Hermann provided a solid platform with 39 from 24 balls, while Janith Liyanage added a valuable 17 and Ben McDermott chipped in with 14. Colombo finished strongly, with James Neesham remaining unbeaten alongside Mendis as the Kaps closed in on the 200-run mark.
For Dambulla Sixers, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Dushmantha Chameera, Gulbadin Naib, and Ramesh Mendis picked up a wicket each, but they struggled to contain Colombo’s aggressive batting, particularly during the latter half of the innings.
In reply, Dambulla Sixers fought hard but were unable to keep pace with the required run rate, eventually finishing on 176 for 8.
Pavan Rathnayake led the chase with an impressive 50 off 30 deliveries, while Marques Ackerman contributed 40 from 33 balls. Gulbadin Naib provided late fireworks with a quick 28 from just 13 deliveries, but regular wickets prevented Dambulla from building the partnerships needed to challenge the target.
Colombo Kaps’ bowlers produced a disciplined performance throughout the chase. Shahnawaz Dahani starred with 2 for 20, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman claimed 2 for 33. Wanuja Sahan and Malsha Tharupathi also chipped in with a wicket each, keeping Dambulla under constant pressure during the middle overs.
A brilliant captain’s knock from Kamindu Mendis, backed by a disciplined bowling effort, helped Colombo Kaps secure a deserved 21-run victory over Dambulla Sixers at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
