Colombo Kaps Chase Down Dambulla Sixers to Seal Four-Wicket Victory in Pallekele

Colombo Kaps produced a composed run chase to defeat Dambulla Sixers by four wickets in the 17th match of the Lanka Premier League 2026 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

Batting first, Dambulla Sixers posted a competitive 174 for 5 from their 20 overs, with Reeza Hendricks once again leading the charge. The opener struck a well-crafted 80 off 54 deliveries, hitting nine fours and three sixes to anchor the innings and give the Sixers a solid platform.

After early wickets put Dambulla under pressure, Sikandar Raza contributed 23, while Gulbadin Naib provided the late acceleration with an unbeaten 33 from just 13 balls, smashing four boundaries and two sixes. Ramesh Mendis remained unbeaten on 6 as the Sixers finished with a challenging total.

Colombo Kaps’ bowlers kept the scoring under control through disciplined spells. Shahnawaz Dahani was the pick of the attack with 2 for 41, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Milan Rathnayaka, and Malsha Tharupathi claimed a wicket each.

In reply, Colombo Kaps made a confident start through Rubin Hermann, who blasted 48 from just 26 deliveries, setting the tone for the chase. Kamindu Mendis continued the momentum with 39 off 28 balls, while Ben McDermott added a valuable 33 from 22 deliveries to keep the required run rate firmly under control.

Although the Kaps lost a few wickets during the middle overs, Ashen Bandara held his nerve with an unbeaten 10, while Milan Rathnayaka remained unbeaten on 15 to guide Colombo to 177 for 6 in 19 overs, completing the chase with six balls to spare.

Dambulla Sixers fought hard with the ball. Dushmantha Chameera and Akila Dananjaya claimed two wickets each, while Ramesh Mendis and Sonal Dinusha chipped in with one wicket apiece. However, they were unable to halt Colombo’s steady progress in the chase.

A solid top-order batting display, backed by a composed finish from the middle order, helped Colombo Kaps secure a deserved four-wicket victory over Dambulla Sixers at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Rubin Hermann’s explosive start and Kamindu Mendis’ fluent innings laid the foundation for another important win in the LPL 2026.
