Galle Gallants Chase Down Colombo Kaps to Continue Winning Start at SSC
Galle Gallants continued their impressive start to the Lanka Premier League 2026 with a composed five-wicket victory over Colombo Kaps in the third match of the tournament at the SSC Ground, Colombo.
After being invited to bat first, Colombo Kaps posted 189 for 8 in their 20 overs, thanks largely to an outstanding innings from captain Kusal Mendis. The wicketkeeper-batter anchored the innings with a superb 79 off 53 balls, smashing seven sixes and two fours to keep the scoreboard ticking despite wickets falling around him.
Ben McDermott provided valuable support with an aggressive 57 from 34 deliveries, adding six boundaries and two maximums in a crucial partnership. However, Galle Gallants struck regularly during the latter stages of the innings to prevent Colombo from crossing the 200-run mark.
Akif Javed was the standout performer with the ball, producing an excellent spell of 4 for 40, while Dasun Shanaka, Mohammad Nawaz, and Eshan Malinga chipped in with a wicket each to keep Colombo under pressure.
In reply, Galle Gallants lost a couple of early wickets but recovered brilliantly through Sam Harper, who played a commanding knock of 65 from 45 deliveries, striking six fours and three sixes. His innings laid the foundation for the chase before the middle order took control.
Charith Asalanka added a fluent 28, while Sahan Arachchige produced a match-winning unbeaten 38 from just 16 balls, finishing with seven boundaries at a strike rate of 237.50. Mohammad Nawaz provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 16 from eight deliveries, ensuring Galle crossed the line with four balls to spare, finishing on 191 for 5 in 19.2 overs.
Colombo Kaps’ bowlers fought hard throughout the chase. Hasan Mahmud claimed two wickets, while James Neesham, Wanuja Sahan, and Malsha Tharupathi picked up one wicket each. Despite their efforts, they were unable to stop Galle’s deep batting line-up from completing the chase.
With disciplined bowling led by Akif Javed and a confident batting display highlighted by Sam Harper and Sahan Arachchige, Galle Gallants secured a deserved five-wicket victory over Colombo Kaps, maintaining their winning momentum in the LPL 2026 at the SSC Ground, Colombo.
