Jaffna Kings Clinch Five-Wicket Victory Over Dambulla Sixers at SSC

Jaffna Kings registered their first win of the Lanka Premier League 2026 with a composed five-wicket victory over Dambulla Sixers in the fourth match of the tournament at the SSC Grounds, Colombo.

After electing to bat first, Dambulla Sixers struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Jaffna bowling attack and were bowled out for 130 in 19.3 overs.

Pavan Rathnayake top-scored with 27 off 16 deliveries, striking five boundaries, while Niroshan Dickwella contributed 23 from 16 balls and Reeza Hendricks added 18. However, regular wickets prevented the Sixers from establishing meaningful partnerships, with none of the batters able to convert their starts into a substantial innings.

Jaffna’s bowlers shared the workload brilliantly throughout the innings. Lizaad Williams and Treveen Mathew were the chief destroyers, claiming three wickets each, while Shakib Al Hasan impressed with 2 for 12 in a miserly four-over spell. Dunith Wellalage also chipped in with a wicket as Dambulla were restricted to a below-par total.

Chasing 131 for victory, Jaffna Kings lost a few early wickets but remained in control of the chase thanks to captain Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who played a calm and authoritative unbeaten innings of 61 from 37 balls. His knock, featuring four boundaries and four sixes, ensured the target was never out of reach.

Ibrahim Zadran provided useful support with 21, while Dunith Wellalage stayed unbeaten on 11 as Jaffna comfortably reached 133 for 5 in 19 overs, sealing victory with six balls to spare.

Dambulla Sixers fought hard with the ball, with Dushmantha Chameera leading the attack with 2 for 29. Maheesh Theekshana and Vishwa Lahiru picked up a wicket each, but the modest target left little room for error.

A clinical bowling display followed by a composed chase made it a complete team performance for Jaffna Kings, who secured a deserved five-wicket win over Dambulla Sixers at the SSC Grounds, Colombo. Captain Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s match-winning half-century and the disciplined efforts of the bowling unit proved to be the decisive factors in Jaffna’s first victory of the LPL 2026.
